Most of us long for intimate relationships, and though texting and emailing may keep us superficially connected, it ultimately cannot create the kind of intimacy necessary to sustain a deep, fulfilling, and lasting partnership. With the divorce rate reaching a staggering 50 percent in 2013 and the breakup rate among unmarried long-term couples even higher, it appears that the more we tweet, the more disconnected we become. So many of us believe that new is better, hotter, and more intense, but love at first sight isn't really love, it's chemistry. Developing the connections and intimacy that everyone craves takes time and skill. In Partners in Passion, Michaels and Johnson provide readers with a fun, step-by-step guide to discovering true, loving, and romantically sexual relationships that will last for decades. Comprehensive and inclusive, Partners in Passion is original and provocative, drawing on a variety of sources cutting-edge science, psychology, the authors' background in tantra, and personal experiences as teachers and as a couple. Partners in Passion invites couples to design their relationships and to choose consciously, and is replete with how-to suggestions and exercises, including interviews with couples from diverse backgrounds, relationship styles, and orientations who are enjoying erotically vibrant partnerships.

A unusually candid perspective on modern relationships and the sources of sustainable passion. Although the authors try to downplay Tantric practice in this volume they may have, inadvertently perhaps, made one of the strongest cases for Tantra's value in modern life. M & K take on a reinterpretation of building desire within normative relationship drawing on recent diverse points of view. The text, though very well written, is a synthesis of a large amount of information and thought on sexuality that is drawn from a very comprehensive bibliography. Oh...almost forgot...it'll help your relationship(s) too!Product details

Partners In Passion A Guide to Great Sex Emotional Intimacy and Longterm Love (Audible Audio Edition) Mark A Michaels Patricia Johnson Jenifer Krist Cleis Press Books Reviews
Mark Michaels and Patricia Johnson have given us a thoroughly engrossing treatise on relationships, sex, and sexual practices. Although, the authors center on the monogamous male/female partnership, they cover a lot of additional ground. If you think that you know everything that there is to know, you are probably wrong.
The book begins by dispelling common myths about relationships. The first to go is the concept of the one soul mate. There are many people who can be a good match for any individual, despite what all the TV ads say. Another good myth is that sex should be spontaneous. The authors advocate setting aside specific times for sex. This makes a lot of sense in a world we where have trouble making time for anything.
We are taught about the parts of the human anatomy that are related to sex. There are a lot of them. Then, the authors explain about Tantric practices. Finally, we are given an anthropologic explanation of practices that go beyond the vanilla monogamous male/female relationship. It is all quite fascinating.
The text is written in clear concise language. Definitions are provided. Some of this may reflect Michaels’ legal training. There are frequent examples, helpful drawings, and references for further reading. Partners in Passion is an easy read, filled with eye-opening information. It is definitely recommended.

Partners In Passion is a comprehensive guide to increasing and maintaining intimacy within the bounds of long-term committed relationships. It provides a wealth of ideas for promoting communication and trust between partners, and the reasoning behind their use and success.
There are several things I found very interesting and enlightening about this book. I appreciate that not all of the relationships featured were heterosexual married couples. There were examples of same-sex couples as well as couples of varying ages, facilitating the discussion that as our bodies ages, our levels of intimacy evolve, both physically and mentally.
The authors offer examples from mild (dirty talk) to wild (swinging or BDSM) in order to spice things up. I see this as a great resource for a therapist or counselor to offer to clients, however if you were perusing your local bookstore, you might give it a pass. Included are several black and white diagrams of anatomy, both male and female, that while interesting, lead to a slightly textbook feel to the book, which is a shame because it is very informative.
From the new parents to the couple struggling with menopause or post-prostate surgery, this book could be an invaluable resource. Four and a half stars.
“Love is Profound Interest” according to authors Mark Michaels and Patricia Johnson. They write about love and relationships with a fluidity born of their own great experiment in marriage and committed love. As they explore common themes of love and sex, they consistently model a very different way of being in relationship. A way that is not based upon the June and Ward Cleaver mythology that still informs our morphic field, but is based instead upon themes of experimentation and play, intimacy and mystery, expectations and explorations.
I will not outline the book or address specific chapters, other reviewers have done an excellent job of that. I will say that the wisdom reflected in these pages, when applied within a relationship, will result in greater joy within the relationship. This is not a quick fix book (“Ten Steps to the Romance of Your Dreams!”) but neither is it a WORKBOOK. It is, instead, a way to deeply reframe expectations, responses, and our own availability within our relationships.
I will recommend this book to friends, those newly in relationships and those who have been happily together for years. I will recommend this book to students of Tantra, as a living illustration of bridging spiritual practice with relationship. I will especially recommend this book to those who are “slogging it out” in their relationship, and to those who council couples who are “slogging it out.”
I often found myself underlining sentences or paragraphs. I occasionally thought about various events in my own life, and how they may have turned out differently if I had applied this or that particular point of view. I wish I had read it years ago.
Not worth the read
excellent for couples to explore beyond the regular -
An informative, balanced and thoughtful read. A bit more foreplay leading up to the climax on some topics than I would have preferred but overall this book is worth the investment of your time if you're interested in alternative lifestyles.
